Art in the Vines Sculpture Exhibition & Trail at Hanging Rock Winery is a must do on your next visit to the Macedon Ranges.
There hasn’t been a sculpture exhibition of this calibre in this region previously. Art in the Vines showcases sculptures from twenty-five Australian and international artists who are leaders in their respective mediums – some have had their pieces exhibited at the likes of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The National Gallery of Australia, The National Gallery of Victoria, Parliament House and many other prominent spaces around Australia and the world.
See first-hand in stunning surrounds works from artists such as Geoffrey Bartlett, Jock Clutterbuck, Mike Nicholls (winner 2018 Montalto Sculpture Prize), and James Parrett (winner 2018 Aqualand Sculpture Award at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi).
Our advice is to pop into the Cellar Door and do a tasting first. Hanging Rock Winery has received multiple awards for their wine. Purchase a bottle or two of your favourite and then with glass and trail map in hand, wander the curated trail. You’ll discover works in a variety of mediums, sizes and all with a unique story.
A series of workshops with exhibiting sculptors Brigit Heller and Anton Hasell, and painters Helen Cottle and Arthur (Ted) Powell to be held in February and March 2019 also form a part of the Art in the Vines program. Tickets are available for purchase online (linked) or at the winery.
After you’ve explored the trail, why not sit outside on the deck with a picnic box created especially for the winery by Piper Street Food Co, enjoy another glass and soak up the view of the vineyard, Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon? It’s the ideal way to wile way a morning or afternoon.
Entry to the exhibition is free and they’re open 7 days a week (7 days a week) from 10am to 5pm. Hanging Rock winery is located in Newham. For further information go to hangingrock.com.au
