Glass Light Catcher Workshop | Kyneton

Glass Light Catcher Workshop | Kyneton

Jul 9, 10:30am - Jul 9, 3:30pm+1Aug 20, 10:30am - Aug 20, 3:30pm

The Old Auction House52-56 Mollison StKyneton, VIC3444 Map

Spend a whole day emersed in the creative process of copper foil in our custom-built art glass studio in Kyneton. Learn the process of creating a two-dimensional copper foil (often known as Tiffany style) glass light catcher!

You will create your own light catcher from start to finish using one of our designs as a guide. After learning about the different types of window glass; transparent, opaque, textured or clear, not to mention a huge range of colours, you will learn to transfer your pattern onto the glass and how to cut it out. You will learn to refine the shapes using our glass tools including the grinder. Once you have laid out your design we will teach you how to securely apply copper foil to each of your glass pieces, then real fun begins!

You will then be guided to tack solder your piece together and then tin your piece in a solder coating and attach your hanging system. You will also be able to add an additional dimension to your piece by adding a bevelled crystal that will ensure that your light catcher will spread a rainbow around any room if you desire. Then you can finish your piece with patinas if you wish!

A delicious lunch will be provided created from all local organic produce and able to cater for any dietary requirements you may have. We also provide you with a divine afternoon treat and tea and coffee facilities are available throughout the course.

The workshop costs include all materials required and all tools will be provided in the studio for use by participants.

Brent James Turner + Luke Harrington at The Red Hill Hotel, Chewton

Brent James Turner + Luke Harrington at The Red Hill Hotel, Chewton

Jul 9, 3:00pm - Jul 9, 5:00pm

The Red Hill Hotel163 Main RdChewton, VIC3451 Map

Luke Harrington returns to The Red Hill Hotel, joining local favorite Brent James Turner, for an afternoon of top class tunes and engaging characters.

About our artists...
Luke Harrington:
Having gotten an early start playing Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival when he was only 11 years of age, Luke has learned a lot of tricks from all the artists he has gotten to work with along the way. With a new found love and drive for hard electric blues, his set flows between old classic covers and new originals. Luke performs from the heart and never leaves anything in the tank.

Brent James Turner:
Originally from Tasmania, Turner is best known for gigs around Melbourne's inner suburbs in the 2000's. Having taken a break from performing to be a parent, he's got a raft of new songs. He still has the same peculiar sense humour, with a newfound enthusiasm for performance. After seven years under the thumb of a small human, he has now been granted leave to have some "play dates" of his own.
Turner writes mostly on an acoustic Seagull guitar, bringing out the Reverend electric semi-hollow body for added depth to match the rasp in his voice. Think Jeff Bridges from Crazy Heart, with the Dude's sense of humour. An innate knack for arrangements leads you from melodies so catchy you'd swear you've heard them before to hooks that will stick in your head long after everybody's gone home. It's Turner's seamless delivery of each number which sets him apart. The years away from performance have not dulled finesse- though his stage banter is largely the same immature and irreverent jokes he's always made.

Miss Friby Presents, Absolute Riot

Miss Friby Presents, Absolute Riot

Jul 9, 6:30pm - Jul 9, 10:30pm

Palais-Hepburn111 Main Road,Hepburn Springs, VIC3461 Map

Multi-award winning showgirl, Miss Friby, is bringing her unique brand of cabaret to the Palais Hepburn.

Sat, July 09th. 2022
Tickets: $30 / Door: $35
Dinner & Show: 3 course, Modern Australian Cuisine: $119
Limited Tickets available, guaranteed front seating.

Doors: 6:30pm / Show: 8pm-10pm
Pre-Show Dinner Times: 6:30pm, 6:45pm, 7pm, 7:30pm.

The placards have been painted, the chants composed, and the dis-enfranchised, franchised, but Miss Friby is stuck. Performing as though her life depends on it (debate-able), Miss Friby's high end choreography, sultry vocals, world class wit, absurd anecdotes, quick change illusions and modern-jazz-ballet-magic are an Absolute Riot.

It's CABARET, it's VAUDEVILLE, it's COMEDY, it's SO WRONG it's RIOT.

All the way from bottom of the globe, Tasmanian Organ band 'The Stitch' featuring Randal Muir on Hammond, Mike Panton on Guitar, Liam O'Leary on Drums and adding a unique flavour, Vibraphone virtuoso, Kelly Ottaway, The Stitch takes its cues from the hard-swinging grooves of Jimmy McGriff, the Meters sound and electric blues of BB King. Improvising on original ditties and inimitable arrangements from gut-bucket blues to Elvis via Sco and 60's lounge. True.

The Stitch's debut recording - two funky instrumentals presented in the humble format of a 45RPM vinyl 7" - received attention from crate diggers and DJ's from St Helens to St Petersburg. Available for purchase/streaming at thestitch.bandcamp.com/releases

Katie Brianna at The Macedon Railway Hotel

Katie Brianna at The Macedon Railway Hotel

Jul 16, 7:00pm

Macedon Railway Hotel33 Smith StreetMacedon, VIC3440 Map

Get excited to welcome Katie Brianna to the Macedon Railway Hotel stage on Saturday 16th July!

Katie Brianna was plucked from obscurity at the age of 15 when Paul Kelly invited her to sing vocals on the soundtrack for Jindabyne before recording 2 critically acclaimed alt-country albums and scoring a couple of Golden Guitar nominations along the way.

With her most recent album This Way Or Some Other it is time to forget all that. Her new work is a game-changer for Katie, breaking the shackles of any previous genres or preconceived ideas of what people expected to hear. Recorded mostly live, the result is one of complete purity that not only showcases Katie’s astonishing voice but also her gift for song writing and the written word.

Nominated for the Australian Music Prize and in a recent Sun Herald article, You Am I legend Tim Rogers called it some of the best songwriting that he’s heard in 50 years. The two-time Golden Guitar nominee is making her mark with this release and is finally able to get back on the road to play these songs live with her incredible band in tow.

“All lilting folk tunes overlaid with sprightly Kora (West African harp) playful strings and dreamy (vocal) harmonies as though Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon had convened in a Bamako back street. “ - The Guardian December 2021
African influences blend seamlessly with blues-infused melodies & soaring vocal harmonies in the music by singer songwriter Miriam Lieberman. Her songs are soulful collections of stories, beautifully told through kora, guitar & Lieberman’s unmistakable voice. She is joined by stellar musician Lara Goodridge (Baby et Lulu/FourPlay), adding luscious vocal harmonies & soaring violin. Together they offer a powerful soundscape.
Amongst the themes are a love for the natural world, stories of transformation, motherhood, love, loss and the power of imagination. The music is coloured by Miriam's transformational time studying in Latin America & West Africa that has left an imprint on her musical style and tone.
REVIEWS
Album Achievement - Voted by the Guardian amongst one of the top releases of 2021
“Not since Deborah Conway crooned “it’s only the beginning “ has an Australian singer made optimism sound so dizzyingly effortless. In a year that was short on both hope and travel, Miriam Lieberman’s sixth album is a sonic reminder that the world keeps turning - all lilting folk tunes overlaid with sprightly Kora (West African harp) playful strings and dreamy three part harmonies as though Joni Mitchel and Paul Simon had convened in a Bamako back street. Children come into the world (Song for Lior - a heart melting lullaby to her newborn son ). Others face their final chapter ( the title track Just Transforming) and the open road beckons ( the exultant Last Night)” Janine Israel “ - Monday 20th December 2021

Van Walker & The Ferriters hit the Macedon Railway Hotel Stage Friday 22nd July!

Tasmania-via-Melbourne songwriter Van Walker's move to the coastal climes of Geelong a few years ago. The move saw him teaming up with local Irish scallywags The Ferriters, who built a loyal following at bars and festivals around the country and grew to include the likes of Greg Field on fiddle, Dan Musil on dobro and Michael Barclay (Paul Kelly & The Coloured Girls/Weddings Parties Anything) on drums.

Before heading off to tour Ireland in August they launch their album Greetings from Newtown Geelong, celebrating a swag of new Van Walker originals in the tradition of the jigs and raves of times past, when pubs were boozy taverns filled with singing and dancing!
