Tree-lined Glenlyon is a charming hamlet, a quick 10-minute drive from Daylesford (or 20-minutes from Kyneton) . At its center, you’ll find a historic general store and a quaint 19th-century town hall. Further afield you’ll discover welcoming wineries, mineral springs and stunning natural attractions, making it the ideal destination for a day trip or an overnight stay.
Glenlyon is especially beautiful in autumn, when its majestic Avenue on Honour creates a tunnel-like effect as you drive into town (arriving from the Daylesford direction). The trees, which alternate between oak and elm, put on a stunning display of autumnal colours.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the historic (and incredibly photogenic) Glenlyon Store. This local store offers seasonal produce, local wine, and artisan gifts like jams and honey. Enjoy the relaxed courtyard, perfect for lingering over coffee or drinks. With over 100 years of history, it embodies the welcoming spirit of a traditional village meeting place.
Walk off your breakfast with a visit to Loddon Falls, a short 5-minute drive north of Glenlyon along the Loddon River. This stunning hidden gem features a dramatic waterfall cascading over striking hexagonal basalt columns into a tranquil swimming hole, before flowing through a spectacular rocky gorge. It is a peaceful spot for a scenic walk, offering beautiful views and a refreshing connection to nature – well worth the visit.
For lunch, make your way to Attwoods Wines, located a five-minute drive from the heart of Glenlyon. Attwoods Wines is home to a beautifully renovated cellar door, overlooking rolling vineyards and leafy gardens. The French-inspired restaurant Le Bouchon, which offers a seasonal ‘feed me’ banquet style lunch, has a terraced deck from which you can enjoy exceptional pet nat, chardonnay, rosé, pinot noir or shiraz, produced by winemaker Troy Walsh.
Alternatively, pack a picnic (or grab some supplies from the Glenlyon General Store) and head to the Glenlyon Mineral Spring, which sits alongside the Glenlyon Recreation Reserve. Amble around the roaming mineral springs, pump some mineral water, have a picnic and take a walk along Kangaroo Creek. Camping is permitted at the picturesque reserve which incorporates a cross-country course for horses, a cricket oval and small racetrack.
