Can’t get the day started without your mandatory shot of caffeine?

Luckily our region is home to a healthy selection of cafes serving up quality coffee. Here’s where you can find some of the region’s best brews.

1. Cliffy’s Emporium, Daylesford

A true Daylesford icon. Rustic and charming, with handpicked and roasted coffee on pour and a produce-laden pantry to browse. Sip your latte under the grapevines as you take in the passing parade.

2. Wombat Hill House, Daylesford

Perched in the Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens, this spot nails both the view and the brew. Seasonal food, great coffee, and that unmistakable Lake House polish.

3.  Bad Habits Café, Daylesford

Housed in the historic Convent Gallery, this one’s big on character. Art on the walls, colour on the tables, rich and full-bodied coffee that hits the mark.

A little French flair goes a long way. Smooth espresso, crisp pastries, and a proper boulangerie vibe. Très bon.

Coffee with purpose. A social enterprise that serves up brilliant brews while supporting local youth. Generous, welcoming and community-driven.

7. Harcourt Produce and General Store, Harcourt

More than a café – it’s the town’s heart. Local produce, community energy, and consistently good coffee. The kind of place where everyone knows your name.

Nestled in the High Street, Trentham General is a beloved café offering top-notch coffee and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Housed in the town’s old National Bank building, it blends historic charm with modern comforts.

You can also take home some of our finest beans. Our region boasts several top-notch coffee roasters crafting exceptional brews. Castlemaine-based Coffee Basics (as per above) were one of the first on the scene, brining over 60 years of family tradition and skill to the art of roasting and blending specialty coffee.

In Blackwood, Martin Street Coffee Roasters are famed for their smooth, creamy and full-flavoured coffee that’s easy to drink and deliciously addictive.

In Lancefield, Rafael’s Coffee specialises in small-batch coffee roasting, using fair trade beans. While The Town Roaster roasts small batch coffee in Kyneton – which can be enjoyed at their shop on Market Street (open Monday to Friday).
